MAMA’S ALMOND BREAD DRESSING

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of crumbled almond bread
  • 1 cup of day-old breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup of finely chopped celery
  • 1 cup of finely chopped onion
  • 1 cup of chicken broth
  • 1 cup of almond milk
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp of dried sage
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

  1. Prepare the Almond Bread:
    • Bake a pan of your preferred almond bread. Let it cool completely, then crumble it into a large bowl. The texture of the almond bread is crucial as it provides the perfect balance of moisture and crumb.
  2. Sauté Vegetables:
    • In a pan over medium heat, sauté the finely chopped celery and onions in a pat of butter until they are translucent and fragrant. This step adds richness and depth of flavor to the dressing.
  3. Mix Dry Ingredients:
    • In a large bowl, combine the crumbled almond bread, day-old breadcrumbs, sautéed celery and onions, dried sage, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. Combine Wet Ingredients:
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the chicken broth, almond milk, beaten eggs, and melted butter.
  5. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
    • Pour the wet mixture over the dry ingredients and stir with a wooden spoon until well combined. The mixture should be moist and able to hold its shape.
  6. Bake the Dressing:
    • Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set. The enticing aroma will give you a preview of the deliciousness to come.
  7. Serve:
    • Serve Mama’s Almond Bread Dressing alongside your roasted turkey, ham, or other holiday main dish. The golden, crispy top gives way to a moist and savory interior, capturing the essence of family tradition in every bite.
